Slow to Anger

Work in a Whirlwind

Quick Fuse?

Are you someone who gets angry easy? God is slow to anger. Sometimes we can get in too much of a rush and want things to happen right now. The best plan of action is to take it slow and not let our emotions get the best of us. God is so patient with us, he is slow to get angry. His mercy keeps many of the consequences of our decisions from impacting us. He doesn’t let the guilty off scotch free but instead gives us a chance to get right with him.

Nahum 1:3,7

The LORD is slow to anger but great in power; the LORD will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet…The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,

God’s Timetable

God is a God of justice. He takes everything into account and deals appropriately. For those who do wickedness, he is slow to anger, but they do not go unpunished. His plan and timetable for how he invokes his justice is not the same as ours. He desires to see everyone repent and come to a life-transforming relationship with him. If you are holding your breath waiting for God to zap those who have wronged you then you may want to breathe, it could take awhile. He may use this waiting period to teach you grace and forgiveness.

Refuge from the Storm

For those who trust in Him, he is a refuge in the midst of the storm. Nahum tells us that He cares for us. When you are struggling, don’t try to figure everything out. Simply trust Jesus and go on with your daily life. Don’t get caught up in thoughts that lead you to a dark place, focus on what He has given you and do it with all of your energy. You will discover that in that step of trust you won’t worry as much and there will be energy that you didn’t know you had as you faithfully serve.
