Sometimes you have to watch and wait. Yesterday we saw how God took the long way when leading the Israelites out of Egypt. He knew they would flee back to Egypt if the Philistines came after them. As they got close to the Red Sea Pharoah came after them and they had nowhere to run. They couldn’t go back or forward. Moses told them to stand firm and see the salvation of the Lord.
Exodus 14:12-14
Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
Watch and Wait
The Red Sea encounter is still an amazing testimony of God working. Not only did God part the Red Sea but he put a cloud between the Jews and Egyptians. Of course, the Jews didn’t see this, they trembled in fear. Sometimes the only option is to wait and watch God work. Moses told them the Lord would fight for them. Then he gave the best advice we could ever get; “Be silent.” Keeping our mouths shut when we don’t know how things will work out is the right wisdom. It is easier to complain and worry than to watch and wait for him to work.
Don’t Make It Worse
This is a great lesson for us to learn as well. If God will never leave us or forsake us all we need to do is trust that the Lord will fight for us and remain silent. Our mouths of make things worse. Fear brings out the worst in us. Some of us begin to talk more the more nervous we get. The best path is to remain silent, take our needs to the Lord, and watch Him work.
