In battle scenes in a movie, there is always a time before the fighting starts where the leaders of the evil forces gather together to plot their plan of attack. They are sneering and raging as they prepare to take on the under-manned forces for good. It makes for good movies, but it is also based on real life. One day the nations will rage against Jesus and plot his demise. They will conspire against him declaring how they will divide and conquer their spoils. The world will conspire together, and many in the church will tremble, but God will be laughing at them while he sits on the throne of heaven.
Psalm 2:7-9
I will declare the Lord’s decree. He said to me, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father. Ask of me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance and the ends of the earth your possession. You will break them with an iron scepter; you will shatter them like pottery.”
Establish His Reign
Psalm 2 is part of a group of Psalms called “Messianic Psalms.” These specifically refer to the coming Messiah. It talks about the coming king. Chapter two is one of the clearest indications that a future savior will one day come and rule the earth. The armies of the earth can declare their power and even proclaim victory over Christ’s bride but one day he will return, and with the power of his word, defeat them and establish his reign.
Gives Us Hope
This should give every believer hope. While it looks bleak right now one day, it will all change. In the twinkling of an eye, the enemy will be defeated, and peace will reign on earth. Isaiah tells us that the Lion and the lamb will lay together and the child will be able to stick his hand in the hole of a viper and nothing will happen. There will be peace throughout the land, and the nations will come to Jerusalem to seek Jesus.
Take Refuge in the Son
Blessed are those who take refuge in the Son. For those nations that serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling they will be protected. Those nations that rage against him will be broken with his rod and scattered like the pieces of a broken pot. Jesus is coming soon. Don’t lose sight of that or what will happen when he does. Keep your eyes focused on him.
