Enduring trials is the most challenging aspect of following Christ. When times are tough, or there is someone who is making life difficult it can make us question our faith. James, the brother of Jesus, understood our difficulty. He endured many trials while being the pastor of the church in Jerusalem. He also knew how they made him a better Christian and what was in store for him when he got to heaven.
James 1:12
“Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”
Survive At All Cost
Trials are going to come to everyone who follows Christ. No one can avoid them, and when we try to run from them, they only last longer. Notice that James is telling to endure. Enduring trials means to survive at all cost. You don’t thrive during the trial you hold on for dear life. Don’t give up. You will get through them.
Sense of Relief
Those who make it through the trial will be called blessed. The word blessed can also mean happy. Who isn’t delighted when we get through hard times? There is a sense of relief and accomplishment also. When we have endured tough times, it shows us that we are capable of more than we give ourselves credit.
Reward for Passing Test
There is also a reward for those who have passed the test. James calls it the crown of life. When we stand before Christ and give an answer for how we lived our life there will be a crown given to those who have stood firm in faith and finished the race. God has promised it to those that love him. Hold on if you are struggling today. Keep your eyes on him as you are enduring the trials before you.
