In 1987 REM released the song “Its the End of the World as We Know It.” It’s a song about how the world was falling apart but they felt fine. You will hear many people predict that the world is coming to an end, it is usually because of politics. In reality, not much changes with your life. You still go about your daily routine. There is one source you need to listen to, the Bible. Peter tells us the end of the world is near so we need to be alert and sober.
1 Peter 4:7
“The end of all things is near; therefore, be alert and sober-minded for prayer.”
Ignore the False Prophets
The end of the world freaks a lot of people out, but as Christians, we don’t have to worry about it. Things will only get better for us when the rapture happens. The important thing is that we don’t get distracted by all of the false prophets who claim they know when it is happening. There hasn’t been a year go by where some hoax is perpetuated that claims to know the day and time of Christ’s return. All of them have proven false which has diminished the warnings from the Bible.
When You Least Expect It
Jesus told us that the rapture will happen like a thief in the night. No thief announces when they are going to rob your house. They come when you least expect it. God isn’t going to tell us when he is returning to gather his church. We need to be alert and sober so that we will be ready.
Be Alert
To be alert means to be on the lookout and ready for Jesus return. It doesn’t mean that all of our focus is on the rapture. It means that we are aware. Become aware by knowing what the Bible says about it, listen to teachings and read books, so you know exactly what it means. Measure the current events against what end times prophecy says.
Be in Prayer
Finally, we need to be sober-minded and in prayer. The end of the world is going to come so suddenly that when those trumpets blow it will be a shock to everyone. To be sober-minded means that our mind is clear. We aren’t focused on the wrong things, but instead, we are in prayer. Prayer is essential to being ready for what is to come. God will make our heart sensitive to what he is doing. Be sober and alert because the end of the world is near.
