“It’s not how you start the race; it’s how you finish that counts.” That’s how the old adage goes, and that is what my coaches used to yell at me when I played sports. The same can be said for our walk with Jesus. Finish the race strong because the prize goes to those who finish well. Whatever God has given you to do, determine in your mind that you are going to do it until you leave this earth.
Acts 20:24
“But I consider my life of no value to myself; my purpose is to finish my course and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of God’s grace.”
Have a Right Perspective
Paul had his priorities right. He wasn’t into self-preservation or letting others know how tired he was; he was about finishing the ministry God had appointed to him. He knew he would be standing before God and would have to give an account of the ministry he was given. Paul wanted to finish the race strong.
Persevere Through the Pain
Too many times in life we want to put everything on autopilot and cruise through life. We want to stop and smell the roses and enjoy the moment. There is nothing wrong with except when it becomes the norm, and we forget the ministry God has given for us to accomplish. Usually, we fall into that mode when we have gone through something difficult, and we became discouraged. Don’t let that stop you from doing what God has called you to do.
Finish the Race Strong
As we get near the end of 2018 make sure you recommit to doing the work that is before you. If your ministry is at a church, then love and lead the people in your care. If your ministry is at home, then care for your loved ones as if their future depends on it. Finish the race strong. God knows you are tired. Let him be your strength as you push towards the goal.
