There is nothing better than smelling Mexican food. Our family loves it, and we eat several times a week. From the chips and salsa to the sauces poured over enchiladas you can’t beat the aroma. Cilantro alone can make me crave tacos. Did you know you give off an aroma? I’m not talking about body odor, that’s gross! As a follower of Jesus, we are living testimonies to his triumph in our life when others see that it is like the pleasing aroma of your favorite food.
2 Corinthians 2:14
But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing
The Smell of Victory
Christians get a bad rap all over the world. It shouldn’t be surprising because Jesus told us several times that the world would hate us because they hated him. Part of that hate comes from the smell of victory. Is it gloating on our part? Not at all. To those who are perishing in their sin, a Christian is repugnant. We remind them of their destination, and it doesn’t make them happy. To those who are being saved by the loving grace of Jesus, we are one of the most welcoming aromas.
Pleasing or Repulsive?
Are others seeing the victory of Jesus in your life or do they someone complaining? As we follow Jesus and grow in our sanctification, we will be a living breathing testimony of the power of God. It’s not anything we do or purposely show, but as people witness our lives over time, they see the work of the Holy Spirit in us. That is the pleasing aroma that people sense. For those seeking they want more of it but to those dying it is repulsive. Be that pleasant aroma that God uses to spread his Gospel.
