Patience is in short supply today. We want information and answers immediately. If we are forced to wait we are sure to let everyone know we are not happy. This is especially true when it comes to issues of justice. We see a person has done something wrong, but others have realized it yet. Jesus lets us know that it will eventually be exposed. We just have to give it time.
Luke 8:17
“For nothing is concealed that won’t be revealed, and nothing hidden that won’t be made known and brought to light.”
Everything Will Come Out
The poor and oppressed really struggled in Jesus’ day. They didn’t have a government that legislated equality for them. If someone wronged them, they were often overlooked because they didn’t have the means to pursue justice. Evil and corrupt people were allowed to get away with what they wanted to do, and they seemed to thrive doing it. Jesus addresses this by telling them “Give it time.” Everything will come out in time, and their corrupt deeds will be their downfall.
It Will Catch Up to Them
Today isn’t much different. The poor are still abused, and it seems corrupt wealthy people are profiting from it. What we don’t see is how God is dealing with them. He has not turned a blind eye to their ways. He is trying to bring them to repentance first and foremost. If they don’t respond to His call to change eventually all they have done will catch up with them. The empire they have built on shady dealings will come crashing down. All of their dishonest acts will come out into the light and be made known to everyone.
Look Inside Yourself
This should make us look inside ourselves as well. What are we concealing from others? Is there a hidden sin that we are afraid of being exposed? If we don’t come clean, it will come out no matter how much we try to cover it up. When that happens, it will be more damaging than if we had dealt with it. If it hasn’t come out, give it time.
