Many years ago a state government had to remove solitaire from their computers because too many employees were playing the game and not doing their work. Productivity exploded afterward. Who knows how many hours are lost today with each employee having their own smartphone with an endless amount of games on it. As Christians, we are to do the best job possible. We are to serve with a good attitude.
Ephesians 6:6-8
“Don’t work only while being watched, as people-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, do God’s will from your heart. Serve with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to people, knowing that whatever good each one does, slave or free, he will receive this back from the Lord.”
Bad Attitudes Abound
Every business owner I talk to tells me that it is hard to find good workers. They spend a lot of time and money, making sure their employees show up to work and remain working while they are there. Bad attitudes abound, and all they care about is getting their paycheck. Sure, you could blame the boss or the workplace, but a lot of it falls upon the person. People don’t want to work.
Serve with a Good Attitude
As a Christian, we should set the standard of excellence in our workplace. Our work shouldn’t be done to impress the boss or get awards but a servant of Jesus Christ who wants to glorify God and spread the Gospel. That means we do our work whether we are being watched or not, we do the right thing and not what will make others happy, and we have the best attitude. Trust me, if you possess these three skills alone, your skills and services will always be in demand.
An Added Extra Bonus
The benefit of working like this is that God is watching and He will reward you for it. Your boss may not like you, your fellow employees may have it out for you, and the customers may give you a hard time, but if you serve to glorify God, He will bless you. Plus, doing that kind of job has a positive impact on your soul. If you know you are doing a good job, it makes you feel better about yourself.
