Mary was an elderly widow who served in the church for decades. She performed almost every role that was needed. She taught Sunday school, served in the meals ministry, and even cleaned the church for a while. Anywhere she was needed she offered to help. The church would’ve never gotten along without her. What was never seen was all of the prayer she offered up as she did those jobs. It didn’t matter to her because she knew who did see it. As you serve, remember that God will never forget your work.
Hebrews 6:10
“For God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you demonstrated for his name by serving the saints — and by continuing to serve them.”
Remember Who You Serve
The writer of Hebrews is encouraging those in the church who are serving the flock. He knows it is difficult and there isn’t much thanks for doing it. That’s why he tells them that even if they are ignored, God sees them and will not forget what they are doing. This should both encourage us and remind us that we are serving Him and not anyone else. There is nothing more rewarding than serving the Lord when we do it with the right heart.
Check Your Heart
Too many people do things today to get noticed. As someone who has been around the church as long as I have, you see it right off the bat. People want the attention and praise and aren’t aware of how they come off. When people aren’t praised, they get their feelings hurt and start to tell everyone who will listen. We need to make sure we have the right motives when we choose to be used of the Lord. If they are off, we will feel burnt and unappreciated.
God Will Not Forget Your Work
God will not forget your work. He sees your service and encourages you to continue in it. He sees the love you have show others and how you have furthered the kingdom by giving of yourself. Keep up the good work even if you do it without being noticed. When you stand before Jesus on that day of judgment, He will recall everything you did.
