Boys have a knack for getting dirty. It’s in their DNA. They want to explore and get into things to discover how they work. Mothers are constantly trying to get the stains out of clothing and scolding them to keep their clothes intact. As Christians, we tend to get into sin that stains our hearts. Fortunately, we have a savior who is in the business of making us purified and forgiven.
Hebrews 9:22
According to the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”
Satisfactory Payment
Some people have a problem with Jesus dying on the cross. To them, it is gruesome and bloody. When they say that it shows they don’t understand the profound effect of sin in their lives. Our sin is unacceptable to God. It incurs His’ wrath. John Stott explains God’s wrath perfectly: “God’s wrath is God’s holy hatred of sin.” While He loves you, He hates the sin in your life. For that wrath to be appeased, there must be a payment, and the only satisfactory payment is the blood of a sinless sacrifice, Jesus Christ.
Washed Clean
Without the blood of Jesus, there would be no forgiveness of your sin. His blood not only satisfies the wrath of a holy God, but it also removes our sin. Picture a heart, blackened by sin, washed over with blood, becoming pure white. That is what the blood of Jesus does in our life. His blood purifies us, and it makes us right in God’s eyes.
Purified and Forgiven
Are you walking around with unforgiven sin? Do you feel like you are unworthy to be forgiven for all that you have done? That’s normal to feel that way, but Christ came to remove all of that from you. You can be set free from the guilt, shame, and condemnation of your past just by asking for Jesus to forgive you of your sins. Start by admitting you’ve blown it and that there is nothing you can do to make it right, then ask for Him to forgive you. That’s it! You will be purified and forgiven.
