I love it when I am watching a sporting event, and they do an in-depth interview with one of the star players. I like to know their background, especially when it comes from humble beginnings. They had to fight against all the odds, but they overcame them and went on to success. Jesus started in much the same way. He was born in a tiny village to poor parents.
Luke 2:6-7
And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
A Tiny Village
These are humble beginnings for the Son of God. The person who is worthy of being born in the most beautiful palace and have the grandest announcement to the whole world was instead birthed in a tiny village called Bethlehem, and he was laid in the feed trough because there wasn’t any other place to lay Him. God had a point in doing it this way. Jesus could relate to the poorest of poor people. He didn’t need the trappings for the rich and famous; all he needed were faithful parents.
It How You End Up
Too many people are ashamed of where they are from. They do all they can to cover up where they were born and who their family is. What Jesus shows us is it doesn’t matter where we came from but where we are ending up. Jesus was born to poor parents, but that didn’t overshadow who He was in God. You may have come from humble beginnings, but that doesn’t define you. If you are a child of God, you are in line to inherit everything God has for you.
Humble Beginnings
Do you see yourself for who you are in Christ or how others define you? If you are comparing yourself to those around you, you will always feel inadequate. When we start to see who we are in Christ and all that comes with that, we will realize that we are rich beyond comparison. The world falsely promises fame and riches, but with Christ, we are promised love, joy, and peace.
