God is never hard to find. If we call out, He will answer. The difficult part is when we drift from the Lord, and we recognize we are lost. God is still there, but if we’re confused or disillusioned, it can be hard to know which end is up. That is where Judah found themselves when Asa was king. The prophet Azariah to him Seek the Lord, and He will be Found.
2 Chronicles 15:15
All Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn it with all their mind. They had sought him with all their heart, and he was found by them. So the Lord gave them rest on every side.”
A Word From the Lord
The prophet Azariah went up to King Asa of Judah and told him that if he and the nation of Judah sought the Lord, He would be found. As soon as Asa heard this, he put away all of the idols and gathered Israel together and told them what the prophet said. As soon as the nation heard they rejoiced. They bought into what was said and swore an oath with their minds to confirm it. As soon as they did it, God gave them rest from their enemies on every side.
Easy to Drift
What can we learn from this story? First, it is really easy to drift away from God. Israel had generations of wicked kings, and the priests were corrupt, which lead the people of Judah away from the Lord. We can end up in the same situation if we pursue our desires, and we stop keeping the Sabbath holy. The kings did what was right in their own eyes, and the temptation is there for us. We need to be led by the Spirit and guided by the Word of God. When our church attendance drops off, we lose that teaching and counsel that can speak into our life.
Seek the Lord and He Will Be Found
The great thing is that God doesn’t give up on us if we drift off. He is continually trying to draw us back to Him. When we do turn back He makes himself so real to us. If you have drifted, turn your heart back to the Lord and seek Him. Don’t wait for the ideal circumstances; go now. If you draw, close Jesus will draw near to you.
