The phrase “Every cloud has a silver lining” means you can derive good from every bad situation. It probably originated from a John Milton poem from 1634. While it may be a generalization, there is some truth to the idiom. Finding the silver lining may not always be easy, but after time it will become evident. Keep going. God will be faithful.
2 Corinthians 1:20
For every one of God’s promises is “Yes” in Him. Therefore, through Him we also say “Amen” to the glory of God.”
Inflicted Great Harm
Sometimes people are going to mistreat you. They intend to do you great harm. It will be challenging to endure, but God will be faithful through it all. That is what Paul is talking about here in this verse. There were some in Corinth that inflicted great harm on Paul and caused him great sorrow, but God overruled them for His good. Paul’s legacy is a testimony to God’s faithfulness.
God Meant it For Good
Joseph said the same things to his brother after they sold him into slavery: What they meant for evil God meant for good. Can you find the silver lining in the midst of your struggles? Are you growing in your faith? Are others being touched by the work you are doing in their lives? The pain may be too great for you to see right now, but one day that smoke will clear, and you will see more clearly.
Finding the Silver Lining
It’s vital that we don’t become consumed with how others treat us. Paul continued to love those in Corinth even though it wasn’t reciprocated. He didn’t stop pastoring them but went on teaching and even exhorting them when necessary. This took a lot of maturity on his part, but we can do the same thing. Start by praying for those who have hurt you. Then when you have a chance to love them take the opportunity.
