There is something special about doing something for the last time. When an employee retires after decades with a company or an athlete hangs up his competitive career, there is a sense of completion. As Jesus hung on the cross, he proclaimed, “It is Finished.” He knew the work of the cross was completed. You are the benefactor of that work.
John 19:30
“Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.”
Powerful Words
There is something so powerful about those words, “It is finished.” To me, it means more than completion. It also means completion. Everything that Jesus was given to do on earth had been completed. He has crossed the finished line, fought the good fight, and won! The incredible thing is that he wasn’t racing or fighting for Himself, but us. He conquered sin and reopened access to his Father at that moment. The perfect sacrifice was complete, and God’s wrath was appeased. Only the Son of God would do this for the world.
You’ve Been Transformed
The finished work of the cross resides in you. Your debt has been paid, and you are a new creation in Christ. Are you living in that redemption? Do you manifest the new life in Christ, or do you look more like your former life? You are an overcomer if Christ is in your heart. Although you still sin, it does have an eternal grip on you. With Christ’s shed blood, the new covenant is on you, and you have the righteousness of Christ on you. Walk in that freedom and rejoice in your transformation.
Sense of Completion
If you want to walk in victory, bow your head and give up your will to the Lord. I know it is scary to give up control, but the victorious life in Christ is found in surrender. Let Him lead and guide you in your daily walk. Trust the Spirit and what the Word says to you. Through that, you will discover a joy you never thought possible.
