The church today is lacking the power of the Holy Spirit. It is full of activity and good works, but it sees minimal life transformation. People are busy doing these works under their own power but soon fall victim to burnout. What you need is a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit. Let God pour out His Spirit upon you.
Joel 2:28
“It will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions.”
Understanding God’s Heart
The second chapter of Joel is packed with spiritual goodness. First, God warns that the Day of the Lord is coming, then He tells them to rend their hearts and return to Him, now He promises that He will pour out His Spirit on all people, and people will prophesy, dream, and see visions. In this capsule, you see God’s heart for His wayward people. He sees them living far under what He intended for them.
The Dawning of a New Age
Peter quoted this passage to the crowd on Pentecost after the Spirit had been poured out on those in the upper room. It was the dawning of a new age, and the power of the Holy Spirit would be what propelled the church. God wouldn’t speak through a single prophet anymore but through the Spirit-filled believers. He would use ordinary people to build up the church, and He would do it through dreams, visions, and prophecy.
Let God pour out His Spirit on you
Has the Holy Spirit been poured out on you? By this, I mean baptized in the Spirit? We are filled at salvation, but we are endued with power in the baptism. This is where the gifts become more profound, and our spirit is more sensitive to what God is saying and doing. If not, then I urge you to start seeking the baptism of the Spirit. Spend some time searching scripture and seeking the Lord. Wait on it in prayer and even fasting. Let God pour out His Spirit on you.
