There are few things more miserable than being cold and wet. Being out in the elements with no shelter can leave you frustrated. Once you get inside and warm, everything changes. The same can be said when we are wandering through life lost and confused. King David tells us to take refuge in the Lord.
Psalms 5:11
“But let all who take refuge in You be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, That those who love Your name may exult in You.”
Run to Jesus for Shelter
King David knew what he was talking about when he tells us to take refuge in the Lord. He escaped Saul with just the clothes on his back. A priest had to give him some showbread for food and Goliath’s sword to protect himself. For several years he hid in caves, and Saul and his army chased him over the countryside of Israel. There were times that David lost hope, but overall he always trusted in the Lord and found ways to rejoice. Along the way, God started to send him the down and out people of Israel, and God used David to turn this vagabond bunch into the greatest fighting force in the history of Israel. Never doubt what God is doing when you run to Him for shelter.
Real Solutions
Are you worn out? You need to take refuge in the Lord. Feeling like it is hard to go on? Run to Jesus and shelter under His wings. These aren’t some trite Christian platitudes. Do you have real problems that need real solutions? Then go to the Sovereign God of the universe and layout all of your issues. Cast you carries and worries on him. Then do something unusual. Start to sing for joy and thank God for who He is and all that He has done for you. You will find a respite from your grief.
Take Refuge in the Lord
There is another reason to take refuge in the Lord. That God may get the glory. He wants to be exalted in our circumstances. As He raises you from the ashes, you will testify of the mighty work God has done in your life. People will take notice and be drawn to Him.
