Is it Time for a Turn Around?
Is it time for a turn around? Is your life headed in the wrong direction? It is very easy to dig ourselves a hole in which we can’t get out. No matter what we do, we can’t get ourselves out. The main problem is that our focus is too much on ourselves and not on what will help us turn things around. Isaiah gives us some excellent guidance on how to turn things around when we made a mess of things.
Isaiah 1:16
“Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.
Clean Yourself Up
Israel was a mess when Isaiah arrived on the scene. Rampant sin and idol worship were the norms. God begins to use Isaiah to call Israel back to Him. He starts with consecration, or setting ourselves apart from our sin and making ourselves clean. There has to be a point where we break from our sin and ask for forgiveness.
Set Free
Righteousness is vital in God’s eyes. Being clean and consecrated should be our daily goal. While we don’t earn anything from this, it allows for the movement of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. To experience the joy of following Christ we need to be clean. This doesn’t mean that if we sin and blow it we need to start all over, but instead we need to be free from continual sin in the same area. Isaiah tells us to put away evil and to cease from doing it. You might be reading this and asking “How do I get free from this? I have been struggling with this sin for years.” The key is not just confessing your sin to God but also finding a Godly person who you can confide in and ask them to help you break free of it.
