Isaiah encourages us to cultivate generosity. Generosity is an age-old principle that stands the test of time. A generous man does not fake his giving; he takes care to see that it flourishes in his life. Thoughts of ways in which is he can bless others with his resources fill his mind. There is no need to defend himself because his acts of kindness stand on their own. Generosity is something that is cultivated. It starts small and over time grows into something much larger.
Isaiah 32:8
“But a generous man devises generous things, And by generosity he shall stand.”
What We Cultivate Will Grow
What we cultivate in our heart will grow. If fear is fed, that will manifest itself on a daily basis. When we sow seeds of doubt, that will permeate every area of our life. Cultivating generosity will fill our lives with joy. It won’t just appear. It has to be planted and then watered for it to take life. You have to be intentional about it.
Generosity Strengthens
Generosity accomplishes many things. It blesses those who receive it, it strengthens those who give it, and it brings about blessings. It’s amazing how God can take our little act of generosity and multiply it in the life of those who we gave. Giving also strengthens the person who gives the gift. Isaiah says “by it; we shall stand.” That means it is a good trait that we will be known by and can defend our character.
Generosity Looks for Opportunities
The generous man thinks of ways that he can be generous. We are on the lookout for people we can bless. When we see the good, it does we want more of that in our lives. Make sure that when we are generous that we are like Matthew 6:3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. We don’t give for the attention but because God has grown in our hearts.
