Amazing things can be accomplished when people work together. Tiny armies defending their homeland have overcome large militaries when they are intent on one purpose. Paul calls the church to be of the same mind and come to a Godly unity so that Jesus can accomplish His purposes through His people. Is your heart ready for that?
PHILIPPIANS 2:2
“make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.”
Essential Doctrines
Chapter two of Philippians includes an early Christian creed. These were usually songs or sayings that helped the early church remember essential doctrines. Before Paul shares the creed found in verses five through eleven, he encourages them to be of the same mind. He wanted unity amongst the believers and, in the process, describes what that looks like. Having the same mind, maintaining the same love, and intent on one purpose are all facets of Christian unity when a church possesses that it is unstoppable in what it can accomplish.
Unity of the Spirit
While we are to strive for unity, it is primarily brought about by the Holy Spirit. Paul talks about the unity of the Spirit in Ephesians. We achieve unity by being filled with the Spirit, which happens through our prayer time and having a heart that is growing fruit. Trying to get along, which is what most Christians think, is only the beginning of Godly unity. It takes people who are hungering and thirsting after righteousness to achieve being of the same mind truly.
Be of the Same Mind
If you desire unity in your church, don’t go to the pastor. Start with you. Get right with the Lord. Confess your sins and ask the Lord to fill you with the Spirit. Let the fire burn in you and pray that it spreads to others. Soon you will see God drawing like-minded people to you, and who knows, if enough show up, revival might break out.
