The amount of scams out there that promise for you to get rich quickly boggles my mind. People are desperate to discover the source of success. They will watch endless videos on what made someone else successful and then try to apply it to their lives. The story of Joseph in the Book of Genesis shows us how he prospered and what was the source of his success.
GENESIS 39:3
“Now his master saw that the LORD was with him and how the LORD caused all that he did to prosper in his hand.”
The Lord Was With Him
Joseph was born into privilege, but he knew how to work hard. That served him well when he was sold into slavery by his brothers. At Potiphar’s house, the Lord was with him, and everything his hand touched prospered. When he was put into prison, the same thing happened. As the Prime Minister of Egypt, he led the nation through a severe drought. His source of success was his faithfulness to God and his work ethic.
More Than Effort
Many people think if they work hard, God will bless their work. That isn’t entirely true. There are millions of people who work hard and can never get ahead. What sets Joseph apart? First, he was faithful to the Lord. He was obedient and full of integrity. He also did what was put before him and let his character guide his actions. Even when he was wronged, he trusted the Lord with his life and let God work out the details.
The Source of Success
So many people want to be successful for all of the benefits. They want the money, attention, and security. The problem is that they are willing to compromise their integrity to get there. True success comes from being faithful to the Lord through all of the trials and temptations as you work hard. Doing that consistently over a long period of time will produce results. Joseph toiled as a slave and was in prison for many years doing the right thing while waiting for the Lord to open the right opportunity.
