God has hundreds of promises in His Word. One of those promises is that he looks after those who are humble and contrite. Here in Isaiah, God promises to revive your spirit if you are humble. Everyone is going to get down and need some encouragement. Even the humble and contrite get discouraged. God sees that and comes to theirĀ aid.
Isaiah 57:15
“For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”
Revive Your Spirit
Part of the book of Isaiah is to foretell how God will bring judgment on Israel for their faithlessness. Starting in chapter forty, Isaiah tells them how God will comfort them after that period of judgment. In chapter 57, Isaiah tells how God will revive the spirit of the humble. When judgment comes, it affects everyone. The struggles Israel will go through will impact those who were faithful, but they don’t have to lose hope because God has His hand upon them.
Don’t Lose Hope
Do you ever get frustrated with how life is working out? Do you feel like you are trying to do the best you can and are still not getting ahead? What makes it worse is that you see others cutting corners and prospering. The wickedness of this world can weigh on a person. If we succumb to it, we will walk in darkness. If we resist it, we will become weary from the battle to live a holy life. Don’t lose hope. God sees you fighting the fight to live for Him every day. He wants to remind you that He is the Almighty God who is Holy and dwells in eternity. God is above all of that.
Be Lifted Up
He will lift the humble and contrite. The humble are those who don’t think too highly of themselves and live with the understanding and attitude God’s grace saves them. The contrite are those who understand they are sinners and realize that although they are washed by the blood of the Lamb, they could quickly fall back into their old lifestyle. It is easy to get weary living for the Lord, but we can stand on this promise that Jesus will revive us and give us the strength to go on. Don’t lose hope and give in. Fight the good fight of faith.
