Are you the type of person who, once you believe in your mind, not much will change? Maybe you consider loyalty to be one of your strongest traits. You stick with those you love through thick and thin. The Bible describes this as being steadfast. That is how the Psalmist describes his love for the Lord. He has a steadfast heart that sings God’s praises.
PSALMS 108:1
“My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul.”
Unchanging Love
Steadfast means unmovable, not changing. Multiple times in the book of Psalms, God tells us that His love for us is steadfast. Now the Psalmist is telling God that his heart is the same way. He will not move but sing His praises from the depths of his soul. The Psalmist has seen the faithful love of the Lord, and now he is attaching his heart to Him, and that is evident by the song that wells up from his soul.
Fastened to the Lord
What is your heart attached to? Is it your family? Maybe it’s attached to the life you live. As a follower of Jesus, your heart needs to be fastened to the Lord first and foremost. It doesn’t mean you can’t love other people or things, but your first love needs to be Jesus. First, love means being most important. When you remove Jesus from being most important, your faith diminishes.
A Steadfast Heart
How do you cultivate a steadfast heart? The answer is found in your focus and foundation. Your focus needs to be on the things of Jesus. This starts with His Word and finishes with what you put in front of your eyes. Too much focus on the wrong thing will take you away from a steadfast heart. The second thing you need to do is establish a strong foundation of wisdom, truth, and faith. This is done by trusting the Lord and remembering the faithfulness of the Lord. Seeing God’s steadfast love manifested in your life will produce a soul that will sing His praises.
