Rom 10:14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
How are they gonna know? That is a line in a popular social media reel. The person responds, “Oh, they will know,” as the video pans to an obvious accident. Many Christians treat salvation like this. How are people gonna know about Jesus? Oh, they will know. Paul begs to differ with that opinion and tells us in this morning’s verse. The only way that people will know about Jesus is when we tell them.
Salvation doesn’t happen naturally. Someone doesn’t just automatically become a Christian. It happens when someone is bold enough to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Preaching isn’t just standing behind a pulpit; it literally means to proclaim. When you share with people in a one-on-one conversation, you are preaching just as much as the preacher who is standing in the pulpit. Preaching can be as simple as sharing how God changed your life. That is called a testimony.
People are desperately seeking answers and help, and since they don’t know Jesus as their personal savior, they don’t know where to turn. Sure, some send up a Hail Mary prayer to a general god up in the universe when they don’t have anywhere else to turn, but there is no connection. They don’t know Jesus personally, so they continue to wander.
Sharing the Gospel with people makes most Christians break out in a sweat, but it doesn’t have to. I suggest thinking about what you would share if someone asked you about your thoughts on religion. Commit that answer to memory, where you can share it at a moment’s notice. Then begin to pray to God for opportunities and the courage to speak boldly. Then leave the results up to God. We are called to be faithful preachers and then allow the Holy Spirit to do the work on their hearts.
