“Hello? Is anyone home? Knock, knock. Can I come in? I have something for you.” That scenario could be describing Jesus in your life. He wants to come into our lives and be a part of what is going on. He wants to join the family and contribute to its success. Are you ignoring his knock?
Revelation 3:20
See! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”
Self-sufficient
Jesus spoke these words to the lukewarm Christians in Laodecia. They know Christ, but he isn’t a part of their lives. Jesus is standing outside their spiritual house (heart) and asking to come in. He wants to have real fellowship with them. Laodecia was a self-sufficient city with wealthy people who thought they didn’t need anyone else’s help.
Keep at a Distance
The definition of lukewarm is keeping Jesus at a distance. It’s okay when we hear about him at church, but we don’t want him in our everyday life. We want him there when we need him, but we don’t want him to see the inner workings of our heart. We want to keep our sin hidden, and if we let him into our lives, it might be exposed. This is all silly, but it’s how people react. Jesus can see everything going on in our life. We know that but we a scared to let him in because we don’t want to give up our pet sins. We love them even though we know they aren’t good for us.
Know the Joy
We are missing the incredible blessings of Jesus in our lives. His presence brings peace and comfort. His wisdom guides us in where we should go. The fullness of God is bestowed upon us when we allow him in. We are missing out when we close the door to Christ. Open your heart today. Ask for Jesus to come in and clean house. Dwell with him and feel the warmth of his embrace.
