There is nothing more frustrating than delayed promises. You hold a person to their word and then they don’t come through. Sometimes God delays his promises because he is waiting for a work to be done in us. Patience is the key when we are waiting on God to do a work. Trust his timing and let his work be done in your life.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord does not delay his promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.
His Timing
God works on his own time frame, not on our whims or wishes. He is patient, knowing exactly when he should give us his blessing and when he should withhold it. To God, time is not an issue. One day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like a day to Him. When God delays his promises it is because he knows it is in our best interests. It is important that we don’t get upset with him but simply submit to his will.
What’s the Hold-Up?
What is holding up God? Only he knows, and it’s our job to wait on him. There are several things that could be delaying his work. It could be our own sin. He is not going to keep the faucet of his provision open if we continue to pollute the pool with our selfishness. There has to be a dying to ourselves thru repentance. We have to recognize our sin and confess it. There needs to be a cleaning of our hearts to get right with Christ. Fortunately, his word says that if we confess our sins, he will forgive. Take him up on that today.
The Blessing of Delays
One more thing to ponder here. God’s patience in waiting for you to repent could also be him holding back his judgment. Our sin could lead to destruction or even death. Take time to thank God for being so patient with you in your sin. Waiting for you to repent could be the biggest blessing of all.
