There are few things better than a shower after a long hot day of working out in the sun. The fresh water makes us clean, and it restores our weary muscles. We feel like a new person when we get out. Did you know that God will shower us with his comfort? Like refreshing waters, God will comfort us when are suffering for Christ.
2 Corinthians 1:5-6 NLT
“For the more, we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer.”
Dealing with the Struggle
Suffering is not something that anyone looks forward to. It’s also something that people struggle with while it’s happening. Paul knew to suffer. 2 Corinthians 12 lists all the hard times he endured while preaching the Gospel. Sometimes the difficulties we face have nothing to do with what we have done but because of who we follow. There are those who oppose everything to do with Jesus. He told us that we would suffer because of His name. He said that people would hate us because of who he is, but not to worry because He has overcome the world.
Showered with Comfort
So how do you cope when you have suffered for serving Jesus? Paul assures us that if we do suffer God will shower us with His comfort. Nobody wants to suffer, but when we do, we can be confident that God will be there for us and the comfort will exceed any suffering. If you are going through some bad times, look to God and let him shower you with his comfort. Paul knew the depth of the Lord’s comfort. He had endured incredible suffering as he ministered. When he didn’t think he could go on any further, he found that was when the shower of God’s love and comfort cascaded all over him.
