We are all faced with new opportunities or challenges that fill us full of doubt. We expend a lot of brain power struggling over what to do. In reality, most of us know what the right thing is but the uncertainty of how it will play out is what causes us to pause. How do we summon the courage to go forward? God tells Joshua some timely wisdom in today’s devotion.
Joshua 1:7
“Above all, be strong and very courageous to observe carefully the whole instruction my servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or the left, so that you will have success wherever you go.”
Source of Timely Wisdom
Most of us will never be asked to lead a nation, but we will need to make important decisions that will impact our lives as well as those of others. As Joshua steps into Moses’ shoes and begins, God imparts some timely wisdom that will ensure that what Joshua is about to embark upon is successful.
Strong & Courageous
First, he tells Joshua to be strong and courageous. Those two ingredients have to go hand in hand with every successful endeavor. If you talk to any person who has made it in their industry, they will talk about the early lean years which tested their strength and courage in every area. They had to step out when they didn’t know how it would turn out. Joshua could tap into the endless strength and courage that God supplies and we can too.
Obey Instructions
Secondly, we need to obey instructions. For Joshua, it was what Moses told us. For us, it is what the Word of God tells us. Obedience is a vital part of being successful in what God is calling us to do. If we always have to do it our way or do our thing we will never get to where we need to go. We will never realize God’s promises for our lives.
Stay of the Path
Finally, stay on the path. God tells Joshua “don’t turn to the left or to the right.” That was a figure of speech that meant to stay focused and don’t get lost. I talk a lot about distractions in our lives. We need to be careful to keep on the path God has set before us. Letting distractions catch our attention can lead us to the right or the left of where we need to be. Make sure you implement this timely wisdom into your daily walk with Jesus.
