The book of Proverbs is King Solomon talking to his young son. He is teaching him lessons that he knows are so valuable as he grows up. Wisdom is the number one lesson that he wants his son to get. The benefits of seeking wisdom and holding onto it have long-term results. Today he tells us that wisdom will guard you and keep you.
Proverbs 4:5-6
Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you.
20 Minutes a Day Will Change Your Life
As we grow and mature, we will be bombarded with decisions. We will be confused and uncertain about what we should choose. This is where wisdom comes in handy. Solomon tells us that it is something that we should seek. If we get wisdom and insight, and it will keep and guard us. Forsake it, and we are left to our defenses. Solomon pleads with his son not to forget the wisdom he has been taught
Avoid the Mistakes
In our youth, we often turn away from the wisdom of those who are older than us. We want to do our own thing, and we don’t want anyone telling us what to do. That is part of independence but when we forsake the wisdom and insight of those who have gone before us we open ourselves to going through difficulties we could’ve avoided. It’s better to learn from other peoples mistakes before we make our own.
Search for It
The great thing about wisdom is that if we seek it, we will find it. Earlier in Proverbs, Solomon tells us that wisdom is a voice crying out in the streets. All we have to do is listen to it. When we walk in wisdom, it will guard us against making poor choices and it will keep us on the right path. How do we find this wisdom? This is where God’s word comes in again. If we are reading the Bible every morning, then true wisdom is being planted each day. The Holy Spirit will also remind us of it when the time is right. Be a lover of wisdom it will love you back.
