Have you ever drank something and it didn’t taste very good? Maybe you thought you were drinking something else and were surprised that it was something entirely different. We always want to drink something that is pure and is going to refresh and energize us. Purity in our beverage and our spiritual life are essential to our daily walk. Drink deeply of your own well.
Proverbs 5:15, 21

Back in Solomon’s day, they didn’t have public water systems. There was usually a well in the middle of the town where you went and drew water to take back to your house. Some people built cisterns, which were large containers that would catch the rainwater and keep it for future use. You didn’t go over to your neighbor’s well or reservoir and take their water, that was stealing.
Stay Pure
Solomon uses this analogy to talk about sexual purity. Drinking from your well meant that you enjoyed intimacy with your spouse and didn’t venture out to commit adultery with another person. The temptation to cheat is the same today as it was back then. We need to avoid that trap that leads us to destruction. Be faithful to your wife. Be loving towards your husband.
God is Watching
God is watching our ways. He sees what we are doing, and he knows the path we are heading down. We can’t fool him nor can we hide it from him. All of our ways are in plain sight. He sees when we click on porn and he knows the thoughts that are going through our head. None of this surprises him but, in his grace, he gives a way out. Just as when Joseph fled from Potiphar’s wife we can escape this temptation.
Fight this Battle
Be proactive in combatting sexual temptation. It all starts in our head with our thoughts. Jesus tells us to take every thought captive. (2 Cor 10:4-6). Don’t let your mind go crazy with lust, nip it in the bud. Next, you want to battle this war with the right weapons. Fasting and prayer help us to get our physical and mental life in line with our spiritual one. Deny yourself food for a short period of time, and this will train you to deny your gratification later. Finally, find someone who can help you, someone you can confide in.
