We can spend hours finding the perfect gift for Christmas. Scrolling through Amazon or braving Black Friday we can exert a lot of time and energy finding just the right present to give our loved ones. You’re not alone. Three very smart men traveled a long way to see the greatest gift given to mankind. They followed a special star in finding the perfect gift.
Matt 2:1-2
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
What’s Up With This Star?
There is a lot of speculation about this star the wise men followed. I’m not an expert in astronomy but let’s just say this was a supernatural phenomenon that God put in place for this special occasion. These men traveled from a far distance to bring gifts to the newborn Messiah. As you can imagine this caused quite the stir in Jerusalem and it even got to King Herod.
Spare No Expense
Why did these men travel so far? I think it was because God compelled them to go but legend has it that these men were from the line of Daniel and had Jewish heritage. We can’t know for sure but whatever the reason they wanted to see the promised king of the Jews with their own eyes. These guys are a great example for us. They spared no expense in seeing Jesus.
Find the Perfect Gift
It doesn’t take us going on a pilgrimage to see Jesus. We can meet him in our prayer closet, during worship at church, or on a retreat with like-minded believers. Whatever you choose to do, just do it. If you seek him you will find him. When you find him worship him. That is what the Wise men did and they found the perfect gift.
