The world tells us that if we want to be noticed, we have to stand out. We need to post on social media and remind people constantly of how good we are. They also tell us that if we don’t tell people no one else will. Since we are a society in constant need of attention, everyone is going around shouting all the good things they are doing. Jesus goes in the opposite direction and tells us to let our light shine by doing good works. As Christians, it is time to shine.
Matthew 5:16
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Let Your Light Shine
Jesus gives us some great advice as we walk with him. He tells us to let our light shine. The light he is talking about is the light he has put in us. When we let it shine he gets the glory, he deserves, and those who are lost are drawn to it. We allow our light to shine by the good works we do and the worship we give to the Lord.
Shine Brightly
The interesting thing to note about light is that it doesn’t make any noise. It draws attention to itself by shining. That’s an important point because we don’t need to make noise to get people’s attention we need to shine through the good works and worship we give. The more we do these things, the brighter we will shine. We won’t have to draw attention to ourselves because our light will be so bright others will be drawn to it. It time to shine.
Use Your Gifts
Increase your light by doing good works. What does Jesus mean by good works? There are the obvious one like helping the poor and protecting the powerless, but there are many other categories that good works where can fall. When we use the gifts, God has given us we are doing good works. When we serve in a way that others can hear the gospel of Jesus Christ we are doing good works. The most important factor is that the works we do give Jesus all the glory.
Drawn by the Light
It’s time to shine. As the Church, we need to be a light that draws people to Jesus. The world is a dark place, and we are the only light in it. People are lost and hurting and are searching for some hope. Shine your light by doing good works, not to get noticed, but to give glory to God. That light will draw people, and they will, in turn, glorify God. It’s time to shine the light of Christ in our lives.
