In the book “The Cross and the Switchblade” Nicky Cruz was asked what it was that broke his addiction to drugs. He replied that he was in the Teen Challenge chapel by himself praying and there was this presence of the Holy Spirit that he felt overcame him. He experienced a feeling he never had before, and from that point on he never had a desire for drugs again. Cruz was set free from addiction, and the chains were broken. Walking in the freedom of the Holy Spirit is essential if we are going to overcome the sin in our lives.
2 Cor 3:17
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
Break the Chains
Sin takes away our freedom. It allows a foothold in our life that leads to bondage from which it is difficult to break free. Many Christians are losing the battle with the flesh and not walking in the Spirit. The Apostle Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit is key to us having freedom. We need to seek him so that we can overcome the flesh and walk in the freedom of the Holy Spirit.
Seek the Helper
Too many people assume that since they received the filling of the Holy Spirit at salvation, that is all they will ever need. Nowhere in Scripture is that supported but that is how many Christians live. The Holy Spirit is part of the Godhead and is someone who we need to be praying to. Jesus told us in John that he would send a helper who would guide us to understand God better. If that is the case, then we need to be asking for help a lot more.
Spend Some Time
You can break free from the bondage of sin and walk in freedom. Stop right now and seek the forgiveness of your sins. Consecrate yourself before the Lord and then spend some time seeking the power of the Holy Spirit in your heart. Wait on him, don’t rush it. In Acts 4:31 the church was praying and the Holy Spirit fell, and they were all filled. The point is that they spent the night seeking the Lord. When was the last time you spent some time seeking the Lord? Seek the Spirit so that you can live in freedom.
