It’s harvest season where I live. The field workers are picking lettuce and strawberries. They put in long hours to bring in the crops. In our area, there is a shortage of workers. The reason behind that is there is nowhere for them to live. Farmers can’t bring in large crews which delay their harvest which can then threaten their crops going bad and their bottom line. The church is in danger of losing the harvest because there are not enough workers. Jesus gives us simple advice; Pray for workers.
Luke 10:2
“He told them, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.”
It Affects Every Church
There isn’t a church in the world that has enough workers to meet the needs. Once you get enough staff to cover your needs God brings in more needy people. It has been a centuries-long problem. There are souls that need to be saved, but they can’t be reached because there are not enough workers to minister to them. Jesus tells us that instead of beating the sheep to guilt them into volunteering we need to pray.
Put in the Time
Our worship team lost several vital musicians last summer. Instead of putting an announcement in the bulletin we began to pray at staff meetings. In about thirty days our worship leader had a bounty of people wanting to be a part of his team. This didn’t happen overnight for was it a one-time prayer. We prayed as a staff weekly and daily in our devotions. God was faithful and provided.
Commit to 30 Days
Is your church in need of more workers? Commit to praying for the next thirty days and see what God does. During that time you need to make sure you are ready for them. Nothing is worse than having an army of workers show up, and the leaders aren’t prepared for them. The harvest is abundant. Pray for workers.
