There is no better place for any Christian to be than in serving the Lord by serving others. There is a joy that comes from being in God’s will and being a part of seeing Jesus transform lives. The blessing of true service is that God promises to care for those who do it with the right heart. We need to make sure our motivation is where it should be.
Isaiah 65:13
Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: “My servants will eat, but you will be hungry; my servants will drink, but you will be thirsty; my servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame.”
Check Your Heart
The Israelites during Isaiah’s time are very similar to the church today. There are a lot of people who are doing religious things, but their hearts are far from God. They are doing to acts for the poor and needy, but their motives are to get attention and not to share the Gospel that will change their lives. Isaiah tells Israel and us that God will judge the false servants, and he will care for and bless those who serve Him with a pure heart.
Have the Right Motivation
There is so much talk about making a difference in the world that we have lower the standard of what that is to what makes us feel good about ourselves. For the believer, our motivation has to be about glorifying God. We need to be willing to serve in anonymity and put the other person’s interests above ours, all with the hopes of sharing the Gospel.
The Blessing of True Service
The blessing of true service is that God will provide for you. He will give you the food and drinks necessary to continue, and there will be a lasting joy that will endure all of the trials. For those who are doing their acts of service for the praise of people, there is a warning. He won’t provide for you, and you will go hungry. Remember that God looks at the heart, and He knows those who are His true servants.
