It is so easy to get discouraged with life. Hopes and plans don’t work out the way we intended them to, and that produces a bit of despair. You start to ask questions like, “What is my purpose in life?” When you begin to follow Christ, the trajectory of your life changes as well. God has a plan for your life that includes serving Him. He has called you to a higher calling. Don’t let doubt creep in; God isn’t finished with you.
1 Peter 2:5
You yourselves, as living stones, a spiritual house, are being built to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Your Being Built-Up
Peter lays out the process we are going through as we follow Christ. We are part of a spiritual house (the church) that is being built up to offer spiritual sacrifices to the Lord. Each of us is a living stone that makes up that house, and each of us serves as part of the holy priesthood. If you think your life doesn’t have meaning or purpose, God isn’t finished with you yet. Each disciple serves a purpose in the Kingdom of God.
You Play a Vital Role
Stones often were used to build an altar to the Lord. You see it from the beginning of Genesis. It is where people like Abraham, Jacob, and Moses would worship the Lord. Now your life is a spiritual altar to the Lord. Our hearts should be a place where the presence of God, through the Holy Spirit, is welcomed and worshipped. It is also where we offer up spiritual sacrifices. We sacrifice things like our will and time to be used for His purposes.
God Isn’t Finished With You
Each disciple of Jesus Christ is called to the Holy Priesthood. You are to serve in His house as one who facilitates the worship. We offer up offerings of prayer and praise to glorify Christ. This is your highest purpose. What you will find as you accomplish this is that your heart will be just like David’s; “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.”
