Valentines is in the air. Can you sense it? You don’t have to go very far to see it. Watch TV for a few minutes, and the commercials will remind you that you can buy the affection of your spouse by spending money on their product. Go to Walmart and an explosion of red will assault you as you walk in. We have created a commercial holiday to remind us to love the person we committed our life too.
1 Corinthians 7:1-5
Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” 2 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. 3 The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4 For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
God Designed It
Intimacy in marriage is one of best things that God ever created. When it as used as God designed it, it draws the couple closer together. It also prevents Satan from using it as a wedge to separate and divide. Intimacy isn’t something we can use to play games. We can’t use it as a weapon to punish our partner.
Be Affectionate
Affection in marriage is very important. We are to render affection to each other. What type of affection does our spouse desire? Is it sexual or is it tenderness? Intimacy is a critical part of every marriage. It brings a couple together physically and spiritually. It can also prevent temptation. God created this beautiful thing called intimacy to be a powerful glue in every marriage. It is the job the of each spouse to render the affection the other person desires and not to withhold it.
