One of the hardest things to watch is to see someone you love suffer. If you are a parent, you want to take your child’s place or protect them in some way. Seeing them struggle through the crisis makes it hard because you are powerless to make it better. Did you know that God sees your pain and has an answer? Jesus bore your sins. He came to earth to take your place. The world was changed from that day on.
1 Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Hung on a Tree
On what we call Good Friday, Jesus was hung upon the cross so that He could bear your sins. He who knew no sing became sin for you so that you might not perish. That Friday afternoon, He hung on a tree and bore the weight of all of your sin. The mind-blowing part is that Jesus wasn’t forced to do it; He did it willingly. He substituted your life with His and took the punishment you deserve.
Christ Lives in You
Jesus did that so that you might die to sin and live to righteousness. His death and resurrection from the grave made it possible for you to be right in God’s eyes and live in righteousness here on earth. Paul tells us in Galatians that it is not you who lives, but Christ in you, making it possible to live the life of a disciple. You have been endued with the love of Jesus and empowered by the Spirit. He has done most of the work. Now all you are required to do is follow.
Jesus Bore Your Sins
You would think that Jesus taking your place and forgiving your sin would be enough, but Jesus also healed your soul by the wounds he received. You were made a new creation by the brutal punishment He endured. On this Good Friday, spend some time reflecting that Jesus bore your sins, you have victory over sin, and you’ve been healed by the blood shed that day.
