Be Watchful. That is something that all of us need to be reminded of. We can’t have too much confidence in the flesh because it is weaker than we give it credit for. Temptation is around every corner. We need to be on the lookout.
Matthew 26:41
“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Continual In Prayer
Such a small little verse. Jesus’ words are simple yet power packed. Be watchful and in continual prayer. 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. This means we need to be on our toes spiritually. We need to be aware of what his tactics are. This is important because he will try to lull us to sleep. Get us so that we become indifferent to God and His Word. That is when temptation can creep in.
Sober-Minded
We must be sure that we don’t put to much confidence in our own abilities. It’s often when we are feeling good that we fall. The enemy likes to blindside us in our strengths. He exposes a gap in our armor, and soon he has a grip on us. That isn’t easily shaken. This is why Jesus emphasizes that we are sober-minded, watchful, and pray. We don’t have the strength to resist but God does, and He will equip us with it.
