We are a little over two weeks away from Easter, and soon the focus will shift to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Is it a powerful time of year where we are reminded of the amazing act that Jesus did for us. He defeated death and gave us the ability to have victory over sin. Through Adam came death but through Christ comes the resurrection. Because of his crucifixion death has no sting.
1 Corinthians 15:21, 55
For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man… Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting?
The Resurrection is Real
Some people doubt the resurrection of Jesus Christ. There are all types of theories of what happened. Some people say Jesus didn’t fully die but only swooned and then was revived by the cold stones of the tomb. Others say that his disciples stole his body from the tomb so they could proclaim his resurrection. Paul shows us that through the resurrection of Jesus Christ we can be resurrected and have victory over death.
The Real Victory
There is no reason to fear death as a believer. Sure, we are going to leave loved one behind and often the process of dying can be painful, but death in itself is a victory. We are transformed from an earthly body to a heavenly one and there is no more sorrow or pain. That is the real victory! There should be a desire in every follower of Jesus to be with him in eternity. Our hearts should long for heaven, and all that comes with it. Sin has corroded the human life, but salvation brings a crucifixion of that old life and a resurrection to a new one.

Jesus overcame the sin of man and the price tag of death that comes with it. Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.” Have you received that gift today? Are you living the victorious life? When we follow Jesus, we overcome this world and all of its troubles because we have been resurrected to a new life. Death has no sting for us.
