Getting old is hard. Your body doesn’t work like it did in your twenties. Muscles ache, eyes and ears become weak, and you move slower. What’s most important, though, is your heart. You have to take care of the organ that makes everything work. There is no shortage of medicines and diets to keep your heart healthy. As a Believer in Jesus Christ, you need to take care of your heart as well. If you let it grow cold, your faith also dims. Fortunately, God gives you everything your heart needs to remain spiritually alive.
Jeremiah 32:39
I will give them integrity of heart and action so that they will fear me always, for their good and for the good of their descendants after them.”
Don’t Stop Short
If you were to put into a list all the things that God promised Israel after captivity, you would be amazed. He says he will breathe life into new bones, our His Spirit into them, etch His Word in their hearts, and now He is telling them that He will give them integrity of heart so they will fear Him. God gives you everything your heart needs. If you don’t take advantage of these, you are missing out on the life He promises you. Don’t stop short of the fullness of Christ in you.
Long-Term Impact
In chapter thirty-two, Jeremiah tells you that He will give you integrity of heart and action. Wow! How needed is that today? Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking. Integrity also helps you fear the Lord because you want to do things that will please Him. You care about what His Word says, and you are careful to do it. This has an impact far beyond your present situation. It will impact your descendants for generations.
Everything Your Heart Needs
How do you get this in your heart? You ask the Lord for it. You repent of those areas where integrity has been lacking, and you beg the Lord to shore up your weaknesses. Then you ask Him to strengthen your resolve when you are tempted to forsake it. Trust me; once you decide to live by integrity, you will have numerous opportunities to damage it. One bonus you will notice as you choose integrity is that your charter will strengthen. Seek the Lord for your heart to be changed today.
