Everybody is looking for a fountain of youth. Something that will transform their lives and make them feel younger. Take this pill or eat this diet and it will take years off of your life. None of it works, and soon we are off chasing another fad. Jesus offers us a fountain of life that had living water. It soothes the soul and gives us new life.
John 4:10
Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would ask him, and he would give you living water.
Breaking Protocol
When Jesus was at the well with the Samaritan woman, he broke a lot of protocol. First, he spoke to a Samaritan. Jews didn’t associate with them because they weren’t fully Jews. They had intermarried with other nations. Second, he talked to a woman who wasn’t his wife. This was frowned upon in this culture. They both show us that Jesus came that everyone might have life.
Fresh Start
Jesus asked her for a drink of water, but he used it to show her that he brought new life. This was a big deal to this woman because she had messed up her life up until this point. She had been married five times and was living with a guy who wasn’t her husband. If there was anyone who didn’t deserve what Jesus was offering it was this woman. Yet he extends his grace to even the most troubled people.
Drink from the Fountain
Jesus is a fountain of life to everyone. When we come to him, he gives us a fresh start. We have a new life that promises more than this world has to offer. Stop looking for solutions to your problems in this world. Go to Jesus and drink from the fountain of life.
