Have you ever stood and took in God’s beautiful creation? To gaze upon the beauty of the Lord is to saturate yourself in his goodness, to be in the presence of the Holy Spirit with the awareness that his holiness surrounds you. David was a man after God’s heart. He just wanted to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.
Psalms 27:4
“I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking him in his temple.”
Main Desire
King David’s main desire was to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life. He knew there was no better place to be. The Psalmist also wrote: “Better is one day in the courts of the Lord than a thousand elsewhere.” That is a great attitude to have. To be in the presence of the Lord is to want to be near God. King David desired that more than anything else. Do you desire to be in the courts of the Lord?
Walking in the Spirit
There comes the point where we move beyond wanting to be forgiven and getting our ticket into heaven, to being a true worshipper who wants to be in the presence of the Lord. We want to walk in the Spirit and experience the fullness of all that God has. We desire for the gifts he has given us to be used to impact the Kingdom of God. David transitioned to this and we can too. It starts with a surrender of our heart to His will. As we decrease, we will see the Spirit increase. Then we will begin to see the beauty of the Lord more clearly.
