Can you believe that Christmas is only two weeks away? If you’re like me, your schedule has gotten busier, and the items on your to-do list have increased. I’m not going to give you a “remember Christ is the reason for the season” devotion. Over the next two weeks, I want to show you scripture that talks about the coming of Jesus. Today Isaiah shows how God is with you.
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Called Immanuel
The prophet Isaiah foretold of a virgin who would give birth to a son and that he should be called Immanuel, which means “God with Us.” That came true when Mary gave birth to Jesus. Wait! I thought he was supposed to be called Immanuel? What happened? Jesus was Immanuel. While we have no record he was ever called this he was God, and he came down to be with humanity. Philippians 2:6-7 tells us that he left the presence of God and lowered himself to become human.
Direct Access
Even though he left the physical realm when he ascended after the resurrection, he was still with us through the Holy Spirit. Before Jesus came, they had the law and the prophets but no personal relationship with God. With Christ’s atoning work on the cross, we are reunited with God the Father, and he is with us. No sacrifices needed anymore for us to get right, Jesus was the final one. Now we have access directly through the Holy Spirit.
God is With You
As you go about your activities, this season remember that God is with you. He takes great pleasure in you and desires that you grow in your relationship with him. Rejoice that he is with you. Thank him that you are not alone. You truly have received the greatest gift, Immanuel.
