Universities and colleges strive to convince you that their way of thinking is higher than the rest of humanity. They look down on anyone whom they perceive as inferior because they are convinced their education makes them smarter than the average person. While they may be experts in their field, you will often find them lost and confused outside of the classroom. Higher thoughts only translate to higher ways when they come from God.
Isaiah 55:6, 8-9
Seek the Lord while he may be found; call to him while he is near.” For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.” This is the Lord’s declaration. “For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
A Way Out
Isaiah is prophesying to the Israelites, telling them to seek the Lord while He may be found. It’s not that the Lord hides, but while our hearts are close to Him, we need to seek Him. The more we rebel against God in our sin, the farther away we get from Him. When the Lord presents the opportunity, we need to forsake our sinful ways and turn towards Him. If we do God will show mercy and abundantly pardon our sin (vs. 7) The Israelites were a rebellious people who looked religious on the outside, but their hearts were far from God. After hundreds of years of forsaking God, He gave them over the Babylonians for a time of punishment.
Trust His Ways
We need to understand that Gods ways are so much higher than ours. He doesn’t think or act the way that we do. If we expect Him to, we will be sorely disappointed. What is the distance between our ways and God’s ways? As far as the heavens are from the earth. God doesn’t expect us to understand how He thinks or acts. He wants us to trust Him. We need to realize that His motives are infinitely purer than ours, and following them will work out the best for us.
Higher Thoughts
The more we mature in our faith, the higher our thoughts will be as we move from the milk of the Word of God to the meat. As our thoughts go higher, the more we understand the sovereignty of God. The more we sink into sin, the harder it is to understand the ways of God. They automatically go against everything in our hearts. If we are at a point where God doesn’t make sense stop getting frustrated and ask if there is some sin for which you need to repent. Then thrust His higher thoughts and ways.
