Moses tells us to judge everyone fairly. Don’t give preference to the rich or the poor. We look at the case, and we do the right thing. This is good advice because it is easy to show favoritism. Judge everyone fairly, and in the end, it will work out.
Leviticus 19:15
Do not act unjustly when deciding a case. Do not be partial to the poor or give preference to the rich; judge your neighbor fairly.”
Good Advice
Leviticus 19 is a chapter of various laws that God wanted the Jews to observe. It reads like a chapter straight out of Proverbs. There is some really good wisdom and advice for all of us. The one that sticks out the most is the law to judge everyone fairly. This is so needed in the church. Too much biased is given towards certain individuals either because they have money or don’t. It is important to judge everyone fairly.
Do the Right Thing
The heart likes to play favorites. Favorite people, favorite things, favorite ways. We make many of our decisions based on what we like and don’t like. When it comes to deciding what is right or wrong, this can throw us off. Do we do the right thing or do we what we like to do? Do we choose the right people for the job or do we automatically choose from our favorite people? That’s tough when we can benefit from that favorite person in other ways.
Lead with Integrity
God is very clear that when we have to make a decision, we don’t play favorites. We can’t be partial to the poor and favor them because they don’t have much. We can’t give preference to the rich just because it might benefit us later on. When we make a decision, we are to judge fairly. It may make some people unhappy, but you will sleep better at night knowing you did the right thing. It will also strengthen our character and integrity when we do make the right decision.
