It seems everyone is an expert today. You can’t watch TV or listen to a podcast without listening to someone espouse their expertise on the pet topic. As Jesus is finishing up his time on Earth, he is imparting final instructions. He knew the greatest help to the Gospel, and our witness would be a church that loves one another. He modeled it for us, and we need to be striving to reach that standard. People will know we follow Jesus by our love for each other. We aren’t known for our good deeds or our ability to recite scripture. We will be known for our love
Love Covers Sins
When the world sees people in the church at odds with each other, it shapes their opinion of God’s love. Many people have been turned off to Jesus because of the infighting and politics that gives the church a black eye. This doesn’t mean that we cover up our problems. Instead, we show true love by forgiving those who have wronged us. Love should cover a multitude of sins.
Known for Our Love
We should be setting the example for what real love is. We need to be loving those who are a challenge and serving those who have been neglected. The church should be a refuge for everyone who has been jaded and hurt. They should feel safe and accepted because they are welcomed with open arms. Let us be known for our love.
