Making the Most of Every Opportunity I Daily Walk Devotion

We should be making the most of every opportunity as followers of Christ. As we walk the path of discipleship, we are to have our eyes open to the opportunities that God puts in front of us. We need to be wise as we walk. Avoid the foolish distractions and focus on what is essential. With a clear mind and a heart that is tuned to the Spirit, we can make the most of every opportunity.

Ephesians 5:15-18

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit

Walk Wisely

Paul was big on using the metaphor for walking.  Numerous times in Ephesians he tells us how to walk. He tells us to walk in love, in truth, and here to walk circumspectly. To walk circumspectly means to walk with careful consideration. That means we don’t run into a decision quickly, but we pray and seek counsel. The foolish run into things only to regret it later. Proverbs 19:3 says “The foolishness of a man twists his way, And his heart frets against the Lord.” The wise man, on the other hand, takes his time before he decided. This is called redeeming the time. Redeeming means to purchase back, and the person who uses wisdom buys time and preserves it before it is wasted.

Be Sober

We need to be aware that the time we live in is evil. It’s not getting better and won’t before the Lord returns. So we need to be extra careful to walk circumspectly. Be sober-minded and watch for the traps the enemy sets up to make us stumble. If we are walking wisely, we will be able to discern what is evil and avoid it.
