More Than You Need I Daily Walk Devotion

Have you ever gone to the store to buy some supplies for dinner and ended up with more than you need? We’ve all done it. Maybe you measured wrong or couldn’t buy the quantity you wanted at the store. What do you do with the leftovers? Do you save it for later, or do you throw it away? Most people store it for later. That is the principle you need to remember when God comforts you. He always gives you more than you need.

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:5

“For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.”

Comfort that Overflows

As Paul starts to address the Corinthians in his second letter, he lays out how much he has suffered taking the Gospel to different parts of the Roman Empire. At the same time, he has suffered dramatically, each time Jesus has given him comfort that overflows. Interestingly, he uses the term “overflows” because it means more than you can handle. When you are going through suffering, rest assured that if your trust is in the Lord, He will give you more than you need.

Right There With You

Are you struggling? I know I am. These last ten months have stretched my patience and faith more than any other in my fifty-two years on this planet. Confusion and uncertainty have reigned when I’ve wanted answers. At some of my lowest points, the comfort of the Lord has been more real than I have ever known. Jesus hasn’t given me the stability I crave but has shown that He is right with me through it all.

More Than You Need

Jesus will always give you more than you need. It may not be financially, but it will always be in comfort, grace, and strength. If you are struggling, refocus your sights on the Lord. He will give you what you need right now, and it will be in portions that will surprise you. Don’t give up and dive into some vice-like drinking or food. Just put one foot in front of the other and do what you need to do. You will look back and realize that the comfort of the Lord was there all the time.
