Earthquakes are no fun to experience. Afterward, you may nervously laugh and talk about feeling the ground move but during the quake, you are freaked out because you are at the mercy of your surroundings. You hope the building you are in is safe or the road you are driving on stays intact but you are never too sure. The early church experienced an earthquake because of a prayer meeting. The building they were in shook because they were praying. That group show us how to pray.
Acts 4:31
“When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God boldly.”

There were some pretty amazing things that happened in the first-century church. One of them is this prayer meeting. Peter and John were released from custody after healing the lame man at the entrance to the temple. They join the other believers who were praying for them, and the Holy Spirit decided to visit them in a powerful way. As they prayed together, the house was physically shaken. This shows us that prayer has the ability to move both the physical and spiritual world.
Be Filled with the Spirit
As they prayed they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. This shouldn’t surprise us except that most of the people there had already been filled at Pentecost. What this shows us is that we need the constant filling of the Spirit as we walk with Christ. Evangelist D.L. Moody used to say that we need to be continually filled because we leak. Too many Christians are running around on fumes and not their full potential. We need to power of the Spirit. This group prayed and they were illed with boldness to tell people about Jesus.
Pray for Boldness
We can’t expect boldlness unless we are filled the Spirit. We might be able to muster the courage under our own power, but we will go without the anointing. The first-century church was so effective in spreading the Gospel because they worked under the power of the Holy Spirit. Don’t start your day without asking God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. He can do a mighty work in your life.
